Born, June 23 1912, in London England, and died June 7, 1954 in Wilmslow Cheshire
During WW2 the Germans were using encrypted code to send messages called the Enigma. The code rotated which key sheets it used on different wheels. He created the 'bombes' to break the codes which took 2-4 hours per key.
Later in his career, he paved the way for artificial intelligence by creating the 'Turing Test'. The test involves an investigator, a person and a machine. Through a series of questions the investigator has to find the real person. So far, no computer has passed the Turing test.
He also founded a basis for modern computers, that calculated and read the tapes it was given. This machine was called the Turing Machine.
